The Sundays River Valley Municipality joined hands with various stakeholders in celebration of Mandela Day on the 18th of July 2013.
Together with the Cacadu District Municipality, it embarked on an anti-litter campaign in the community of Addo Valentia tackling to clean the illegal dumping sights in the area. Furthermore the municipality with the Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform painted, gardened and cleaned a needy Noncedo Pensioners Club Home for the 67 minutes of community service.
The precedingâ€™s of the day started with a short prayer for Tataâ€™Madiba at the Addo Monumental Tombstone. Thereafter everyone split into two groups one going to the anti-litter campaign and the other to the cleaning of the old age home.
Councillors, Officials and members of the public were provided with branded black bags in which to work with. Speaking to the crowd of people, Councillor Hawu of SRVM highlighted that Former President Mandela is honored by the world because of he possessed a character of humility, a character that each of us can adopt to be better people.
